SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist's Odds 'n Sods. This column is a collection of relevant information for the modern JWR survivalist and prepper. Border Patrol now catches egg smugglers
First of all, at Alpha News:, this sign of the times: the border police face a new smuggling problem: eggs. This article begins:
“U.S. Customs and Border Protection is asking Americans to stop trying to smuggle raw eggs from Mexico.
As the bird flu drives up the price of eggs and poultry, as well as the current rate of inflation, people are buying the produce in Mexico instead of spending the extra money at the grocery store.
“There has been a sharp increase in the volume of prohibited food items, such as raw eggs and raw poultry meat, brought in by travelers from Mexico. We would like to remind the traveling public that federal agricultural regulations remain in effect,” said Jennifer De La O, director of CBP field operations in San Diego, in a Jan. 20 news release.

The tip of the FBI iceberg
An article on the militarization of the federal government, at The Washington Standard: Tip of the FBI iceberg. A pericope:
“This citizen mentoring program is actually the culmination of a very successful con that DHS, through the FBI, has been running for more than 20 years – since the establishment of the FBI Fusion Centers after 11/11. They were touted as the cure for the "intelligence failures" that led to 11/80. These were places where local authorities and federal officials from various agencies could supposedly go to "merge" information to detect and prevent future terrorist attacks like XNUMX/XNUMX. There are now about XNUMX across the United States.

Google Maps lets you blur your home. Here's why you should
Blog reader KB mentioned it, on CNET: Google Maps lets you blur your house. Here's why you should. Comment from JWR: Keep in mind that this is a wise practice, but only if other people in your town are also doing it. If you are the only to do so locally could be a red flag for criminals, indicating "something worth hiding".

UK military operation spied on criticism of Covid response
Reader Don S. sent this: Shadowy military operation spied on criticism of Covid response. Here is an excerpt:
"A shadowy military operation has been launched in Britain to monitor critics of the Covid response and treat them as 'enemies of the state'.
Military agents from Britain's 'information warfare' brigade were part of a 'sinister operation which targeted high-profile politicians and journalists who raised doubts about the official response to the pandemic', the DailyMail.
Official documents revealing the domestic spying operation were obtained by civil liberties group Big Brother Watch. The documents were shared exclusively with the Daily Mail. They set out the inner workings of the Counter Disinformation Unit, based in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and the Rapid Response Unit in the Cabinet Office.
Influence operations were conducted from the Department of Defense's 77th Brigade seeking "non-lethal engagement and legitimate non-military leverage as a means to adapt adversary behaviors," according to the report.
A whistleblower who contacted the Mail who claimed to work for the brigade said the unit had strayed far beyond its scope of targeting foreign powers. British citizens' social media accounts have even been scrutinized, which the UK Ministry of Defense in public has repeatedly denied.
The Mail reports that the UK government has justified its nationwide surveillance and censorship activities by opposing 'disinformation' and 'harmful narratives… from so-called experts'.

USAF officer took top secret information, stored at home
High-ranking Air Force officer admits taking highly sensitive classified material, storing it at home: report. Comment from JWR: Compare that to the Biden case. This officer will probably get a 5 year sentence, but Creepy Joe probably won't even be prosecuted. I bet Biden won't be in office for four years and his successor will forgive him and his son Hunter with sweeping pardons.
